What information to include in a tutor request?
We deal with a lot of parents, and a lot of students. How they approach us can make all the difference and what help we are able to provide them. A lot of parents provide the most bare bones description of what they need. And sometimes that is ok. We don’t need your life story either.
I would like to encourage parents and students to give us a little more information. In the registration box, there is a box that says OTHER NOTES. Write a little something, tell us if there is something specific the student is struggling with. Tell us what their last test marks have been. Give us a tiny bit more insight into the situation. The tutor we assign will be able to provide the most effective tutoring if he knows what he is going into and can prepare for the tutoring session.
Here’s a example of my ideal tutoring request: 17-year-old h.s. senior needs assistance with quadratic equations prior to December ACT session. She could receive tutoring Tuesdays or Thursdays after 7 PM or Mondays after 4:30 either at the public library or our home on the SW side.
Not the entire life story, but a brief description. Sometimes there isn’t much to say, the child needs help with math… all of it… and that’s just fine. But sometimes there is room for a few more details!
Happy Tutoring!
