Everything You need to know to be a Tutor!

LearnOn! Tutoring offers a great opportunity to make some EXTRA cash!

• We provide tutoring for ALL grades and ALL subjects
• Sessions run a minimum of 60 minutes in person, and 30 minutes online.
• For in person, you can pick your area, and limit the distance you want to travel.
• You can chose if you want to do online, in person or both.
• You pick your own schedule; choose how many students you want to have, and when you can do it.
• For in person tutoring, please pick an area that is close and convenient to you.
• For in person tutoring, we strongly recommend that you have transportation or an efficient way to get around.

How sessions are given:

• You will receive tutor posting emails.
• REPLY to email if you are interested.
• The session will be given to the first response that best matches location, schedule, and availability.
• We use email for everything. We encourage you to check your email OFTEN.

Once you are assigned:

• You will be notified of student assignment.
• PLEASE DO NOT ASK for a session if you are uncertain about LearnOn, pay, schedules or decide to change your mind after, it is NOT fair to stand a student up. If you get a session SHOW UP!
• Tutoring includes: explaining stuff they didn’t learn in class, helping with homework, helping with assignment, helping with studying for tests, going over past tests, answering questions etc.
• We will be in contact both with you and the parents to keep up to date on the student’s progress and how the sessions are coming along.
• We run checks on our tutors to make sure that they are complying with rules; you could be presented at any time with a “mystery student” that will rate your performance, reliability, punctuality, honesty etc.
• The LearnOn! Supervisor calls students and tutors randomly throughout the week to supervise.

Online Tutoring:

•You require Telegram Messenger, on both your phone and computer.
• Telegram Messenger is your ‘online classroom’ with the student, and where you will communicate, schedule, post resources etc.
• The tutoring session is done on Zoom or Google Meet.  Your choice.
• You will be assigned, and receive a group chat link to your telegram chat with the student.
• The group chat includes the tutor, LearnOn admin, the student, and if they wish to join, the parent.
• You are to record the screen on your tutoring session, and post the video file to the telegram chat.
• The video of the tutoring session is required.  You are recording the screen, and everything you explain and show on the screen.
• Parents are notified that each tutoring session is recorded.
• After you are done your tutoring session, you login to your account on LearnOn.ca, and log your hours for payment.

In Person Tutoring:

•You require Telegram Messenger, on both your phone and computer.
• Telegram Messenger is your ‘online classroom’ with the student, and where you will communicate, schedule, post resources etc.
• In Person Tutoring will require a physical meet up, but the group chat will still be used for communication, posting reports, resources etc.
• You will be assigned, and receive a group chat link.
• The group chat includes the tutor, LearnOn admin, the student, and if they wish to join, the parent.
• After you are done your tutoring session, you login to your account on LearnOn.ca, and log your hours for payment.

How does Payment work?

• When you are assigned a student it will come up in your profile
• After every session you are to login to your account and click on LOG HOURS next to the student name.
• LearnOn! will issue you a cheque or etransfer for the total hours you tutored during the calendar month.
• Pay Schedule: For example all hours tutored in the month of January are paid in February.
• LearnOn! Tutoring positions are contractor positions so it is up to you to declare income. You will receive your cheque 100%, nothing will be deducted.

What Do I Make?

• Postings indicate how much the hourly pay will be, and what the hourly rate increases are as you achieve milestones.

Pay Raises and Rewards:

EXAMPLE:  $19/hour >>> +$2/hour raise @ 6th hour, +$1/h raise @ 16th hour, +$2/h raise @ 21st hour

We will be continuing to bring in rewards and bonuses for tutors so work hard and get as many sessions as possible with your students!

REWARDS: Tutors who have demonstrated motivation, reliability, honesty, trustworthiness and good work ethic, will get a BONUS at the end of the month on their cheque. We constantly talk to our students/parents. We track your performance, and we know what tutors really go beyond the call of duty and make LearnOn! proud. Our #1 priority is customer satisfaction and you represent LearnOn!

NO SHOWS: There is nothing WORSE than a student waiting for a tutor who doesn’t show up. If you are sick PLEASE let us know so we can cancel and the student isn’t left expecting you. The first time you stand someone up you will receive a warning, and the reason will go on file (ie. Car trouble etc). We will have to discuss with you what happens if it “no shows” become a common issue with you. And it will result in the loss of students

Communication

You can communicate with us by email, phone, text, WhatsApp or Telegram.

Email is usually the best way to reach us.  If you have a particular issue please state it on the SUBJECT LINE of the email, do not reply to something old.

Please provide us with as much information as you can. Please provide information in point form and in a clear and organized manner. Please tell us the courses you are taking, the grades you have achieved, past work experience etc.

If necessary we will contact you and ask you to mail in transcripts, copies of old report cards and references from past jobs.
